Eat Like a Cave Man

We are designed to eat the diet that our cavemen ancestors ate, not all the things we have invented, manufactured and processed over the last couple of hundred years. With all the processed foods we now eat in the western world, it is little wonder that obesity, illness, lethargy and bad skin afflict so many of us.

 

One increasingly popular way to break free from the poor food of modern life is to change your diet back to what the cavemen would have eaten back in the Paleolithic era. The logic is that our bodies evolved over many hundreds of thousands of years eating that type of diet, and a few thousand years of eating differently hasn’t yet changed us. Hence if we revert back to a Paleolithic Diet our bodies will operate much more efficiently, and we will become healthier, fitter and have more energy.

 

If we want to eat like a caveman we need to focus our diet on meat, fish and vegetables. These where the food stuffs that would have been available to our Paleolithic ancestors. On the other hand he did not have access to rice, grains, breads, sugar, cakes, pastries. potatoes etc. As such these items would be avoided.

 

This then is the Paleolithic Diet, or Paleo Diet, or sometimes simply the caveman diet. To get an idea of its increasing popularity take a look at this video of a recently news item from ABC’s Nightline slot that looks a bit closer at the diet and way of life.
