Paleo Diet
Less of a Diet, more a change of lifestyle
The reason the Paleo Diet is so popular with those who try it is that it is not really like most other diets. It is not some rigid system where you have to cut down on what you eat so that you are constantly hungry. It is does not require complex calculations of calories or proportions of carbohydrates that you are eating. Most significantly it not a diet that you struggle through for few weeks or months before reverting to your old eating ways.
With the Paleo Diet what you are doing is changing the way you eat. Because you are changing your diet back to the natural way are bodies are designed to eat (from our caveman days) your body will love what you are doing, and you will soon begin to crave the foods that make up your new diet. Hence at that point is will no longer be a forced diet, it will just be the way you eat. The good news is that that new way of eating will be really healthy and will leave you feeling less sluggish and bloated and more full of life.
OK, tell us more about what’s involved…
The Paleo Diet is based on the food types our ancestors would have eaten back in Caveman days, or to give it its scientific name, the Paleolithic Period. Hence the full name is really the paleolithic diet. Don’t worry this doesn’t not mean that you have to start eating dinosaur for lunch. Instead the diet focuses on the main food items that were available to the caveman and the options that were available for him to cook and eat them.
So put simply, the paleo diet involves eating only food that you can ‘Catch’, ‘Fish’ or ‘Grow’. It is also vital that you eat these food stuff is as natural a state as possible. This means simple cooking and preparation.
By Eating this way you immediately cut out all the sugary and processed foods that form such a damaging part of the modern diet. To help explain the process in some more detail, I have a video below of Shawna K interviewing Paleo Diet expert Jana Holland.
One point that is really worth noting here is that the Paleo Diet is not a low-carbo diet. Many people make that mistake and this is why many people unfairly criticize the diet. The reality is that this diet gives you a good balance of foods, including carbohydrates in fruit and vegetables. All it is really cutting out is processed foods.
